i first heard this record after finding a vinyl copy in the give-away bin at the u of t music library. the songs are in french. sweet and mysterious. the singing nun, aka Jeanine Deckers, was a belgian nun. read about her interesting and sad life here.

"dominque" was the big hit from this album. despite being in french, it went to #1 in america. this is because it came out right after the kennedy assassination and djs wanted something low key to play.

religious music can generate profound feelings in me. there is something very sincere about the devotion in these songs. they may induce feelings of humility and contemplation.

this is the time of year where you can get away with listing to something like this without people wanting you to put on something more accessible. just tell them that it is christmas music. they will then surrender to the soothing tones.
