You're Terrific When You're Drunk

(ENTER: Robert Wyatt, Stuttering, Staring infinitely, Dancing Something with broken legs on dangling Strings)
looks familiar

LISTEN TO "ROCK BOTTOM" HERE

1. Sea Song

*Play*

sounds like some early beatles or something like that, pondering major chords womping about.

:28 a sort of wimpereing voice comes in with stories from the sea. singers like this always win me over, something so folky, so home-made brownies about it all.

1:12

You're terrific when you're drunk
I like you mostly late at night - you're quite all right

But I can't understand the different you
In the morning when it's time

to play at being human

this line makes me feel made of stone, i cant tell if i empathize because thats how i feel about all of my relationships, or because i know that's how people feel about me...

1:42 TRILLS. WIGGLING ABOUT THE SOUNDSCAPE. SOMETHING LIKE DEBUSSY. i quite like this, something like a jelly fish. VIBE

3:34 ROCK BOTTOM? (the peoples champ..)

3:52 we are served a fresh snack tray , the first sign of hope on the album. here comes Wyatt in to work out his vocal skill which he no doubt has woodshedded with rigorous discipline.

4:40 this Wyatt anachronistically doing his best frank ocean impression, and id say the latter is a reincarnation of the former, if it wasnt for Wyatt not being dead yet.

the take over of the synth here is really brilliant really beautiful really blooming quite like spring, i think we are allowed to enjoy this very much.

4. Alifib

and right now i hear the sound of 100 hip hop producers flipping this sample over 808 kick drums, because i have no idea what is going on and it's an absolute perverse delight.

the "huff" makes this tune feel voyeuristic, im watching. robert is watching. enjoy the music while he watches you watch.

1:48 when someone takes a solo, dont think about it. just let it tap dance all up on the cortex.

this is love making music. anyone who cringes at the thought isnt invited to the party.
*******

i went on and listened to this rest of this one, it was truly in my heart. the lyrics are so deeply personal that this really brings it off the page of some avant-garde thumb sucking process. wherever he came from, ROCK BOTTOM is a far cry from the upper echelons from what i have heard most career musicians ALLOW themselves to do. this is music without shackles. enjoy.
